Who created ChatGPT?

It is a for-profit organization established in late 2015 to promote beneficial applications of artificial intelligence (AI). Its name: OpenAI. And in its original funders, there is the inevitable Elon Musk. Co-founder of OpenAI, he was there to promote a "friendly" AI, after his notable outings on artificial intelligence, about which he claimed that it posed a danger to the human species " existential". But between Twitter and Tesla via Neuralink, Musk doesn't really have the OpenAI neurons. Rather, the brains of the business are its president and co-founder Sam Altman. Another little digital genius, he made his fortune by creating and reselling a mobile geolocation app called Loopt. Impressed with the program's capabilities, Elon Musk tweeted on December 3, 2022: "ChatGPT is scary. We're not far from a dangerously strong AI", one capable of rivaling human intelligence.

 

 

 

Why is this worrying?

ChatGPT is freely available on the web. It is nevertheless necessary to open an OpenAI account (which allows the organization to collect data on its users; more than a million people registered in 5 days to test the program, writes the New York Times). However, this software is made to produce plausible content, but not necessarily exact. It is therefore potentially a fake news factory. And then it is a producer of counterfeits. That is to say that a cheating student can use it to write an essay for him (incidentally ChatGPT is now banned in New York City public schools), or that a lazy screenwriter will ask him to write the next screenplay in his series. The program poses a fundamental problem”, that of our relationship to the truth.
